Spring Home Maintenance Tips
March 5, 2018 | No Comments
Spring is here with a warm welcome after a long dark and cold winter. The sunshine and warm weather is a breath of fresh air. You can now move outside anytime you want, and the children can have fun playing outside. However, the only downside to this is the sunshine will spot all your leaf-filled gutters, cracked pavement and dead plants in your flower beds. It is time to tidy up and here are a few home maintenance tips that will get things looking good for spring.
Roof Inspection
Being your first defense against water damage, this is the first place you should check after winter. Delays in repairing the roof can cause severe water damages next time a storm hits.
Cleaning the Gutters
After roof inspection, cleaning the gutters is the next thing you should have in mind. Gutters are used to direct water away from your roof and your house, therefore, protecting them in return. Clogged drains will not lead water away from the foundation and can cause water damage, and you might not notice it until you need expensive repairs.
Inspect HVAC System
The system might have been overworked during the winter, so it deserves some “appreciation” regarding service and repairs. For example, dirty filters which often occur during winter forces your system to work harder. This inefficiency means it uses up a lot of energy and ends up draining your wallet. Remember you will still need the HVAC system during summer.
Check Window and Door Seals
Winter weather is sometimes harsh on window seals – cracking, and hardening caulk can result. Repair or replace the seals if need be and this way, you will not only reduce the air conditioning bill, but you will also prevent water from entering the house.
Drain the Water Heater
Sediment builds up in the water heater tank after its prolonged use during winter. Spring is a great time to flush that sediment out. Use the spigot near the bottom of the heater and drain it. This draining prolongs the heater’s life and reduces the electricity bill.
These are a few of the home maintenance tips that will help keep your house clean and safe during and after spring. These can be lifesaving and money saving tips ensuring you have a great spring and summer ahead of you.
