Grayson Homes builds high quality constructed homes that are low maintenance, energy efficient, and most of all comfortable. We take a whole house approach when delivering an eco-friendly home. Homeowners can expect no drafts and low energy bills for years to come.
According to Wikipedia a green home is a type of house designed to be environmentally friendly and sustainable; also it focuses on the efficient use of “energy, water, and building materials.”
Home Innovation Research Labs is an independent certification program that ensures homes meet the criteria for the National Green Building Standard™ (NGBS). The NGBS certification goes well beyond saying a home is energy efficient; it provides an independent, third-party verification that a NGBS Green Certified home is designed and built to achieve high performance in six key areas: Site Design, Resource Efficiency, Water Efficiency, Energy Efficiency, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Building Operation & Maintenance.
Site Design.
The yard of Lot 4 has been certified by the Wildlife Federation.
As part of the NGBS certification for Site design, we provided an “as built” survey, displaying how much land was cleared compared to how much land was left undisturbed. The environmentally friendly natural area allows for wildlife living conditions and food, and features native North Carolina flowering plants. Lot 4 has a drainage easement which has been landscaped to include plants that attract birds, a bird feeder, bird house, and bird bath.
Also as part of the site design, we used plants and grass that are more native to the area. Our homes feature Bermuda sod for the lawn, instead of water-thirsty fescue, and drought-tolerant plants throughout the landscape. We have chosen not to install irrigation systems because they drain the water supply; instead by incorporating Bermuda and drought-tolerant plants, the need for water has been effectively reduced.
Resource Efficiency.
In the kitchen of our homes are two trash bins, one for trash and one for recycling.
Our homes use engineered hardwood flooring because they only have a thin layer of real wood on top, as compared to site-finished hardwood flooring, thus saving trees from being destroyed. In lot 4 we used Baroque Flooring which contains recycled material beneath the thin wood layer.
Water Efficiency
Low-flow shower heads, faucets and toilets help to conserve the water used from the bathrooms and kitchen. Our fixtures are designed for energy efficiency and surpass the NC building code requirement.
Indoor Air Quality
Our whole house mechanical ventilation system uses a MERV 11 filter. For “Green” certification, Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) 8 Filters are required, which allow fewer dust particles and airborne particles pass through giving us cleaner air to breathe. Typical home filters are MERV 4 while hospital operating room filters are MERV 16.
The HVAC system comes with a programmable thermostat.
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids, and include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. All of our paints inside the home are low VOC paints.
Engineered hardwood flooring reduces the amount of wood used to create the flooring compared to regular hardwood flooring, thus saving more trees from needlessly being cut down.
Wesley Manor is Environmentally Friendly.
The neighborhood includes 5 stormwater devices break down the nutrient flow out of the neighborhood and into nearby streams, to river beds and eventually to our lakes where we get our drinking water from. When homeowners fertilize their yard, these stormwater devices contain the harmful nutrients such as phosphorous and nitrogen.
