New Homes: Lifestyle in Downtown Raleigh

There is no mistaking that downtown Raleigh, North Carolina is growing. You can see the signs everywhere - new homes, new roads, new commercial buildings. So what is attracting people to Raleigh? There are many reasons, but let’s take a look at the top few.

Affordable Cost of Living. The cost of housing and everyday expenses are a fraction of other east coast cities. Whether you are looking for a house with some land or an apartment or condo right downtown, the prices are affordable. All the amenities of a bigger city, but for a lot less cash.

Great Job Opportunities. The Research Triangle offers many high-income technical jobs. Amazon is opening a large distribution center just south of the city. And companies are moving in attracted by the low cost of living and highly educated workers.

Museums. There are several world-class museums in Raleigh: The North Carolina Museum of Natural Science, North Carolina Museum of History, North Carolina Museum of Art, and Marble Kids Museum plus dozens of smaller art and history museums.

Dining. Raleigh is getting the reputation of being a city for “foodies.” Recently Bon Appetit magazine named two Raleigh eateries in there 2019 list of the Best New Restaurants: Benchwarmers Bagels and Heirloom Brewshop. A James Beard Award-winning chef, Ashley Christensen, has several restaurants in downtown Raleigh including her flagship restaurant, Poole’s Diner.

Outdoors. Raleigh has an extensive greenway system around the city. There are over 100 miles of walking and biking paths. Umstead State Park has hiking paths, and Jordan Lake is excellent for boating.

Mountains and Beaches. If downtown Raleigh is not enough for you, beaches are only two hours away. It’s easy to have a day at the beach. And for a weekend escape, the Great Smoky Mountains, and Blue Ridge Parkway are only a four-hour drive.
